Line Dance Etiquette
To ensure that you, and those dancing around you, have a great time whilst line dancing please follow these simple Line Dancing Etiquette Guidelines:
- Never come onto the dance floor carrying anything - including drinks, glasses, cans or lit cigarettes
- Never stay on the floor chatting to your friends - if the music has started go off the dance floor to chat
- If you accidentally bump into somebody you should apologise - whether it was your fault or not
- If you accidentally knock over somebody's drink then make sure you replace it immediately
- The dance floor is for everyone - not just you. Try to leave the outside lane clear for couple dancers
- Don't block the progress of those on the outside lane as they have the right of way on the dance floor
- When dancing around the floor, the line of dance ['LOD'] is anti-clockwise. Never go against the line of dance
- When the dance floor is crowded make sure you take small steps and watch for collisions
- Never walk though dancers to cross the floor - always walk round the floor or wait
- If you are going to join a line but you would block the outside lanes then start a new line instead when possible
- Don't start a different dance as a floor split, unless there is plenty of room and you sense it is acceptable or if it has been announced
- Be helpful to newcomers - everybody was a beginner at one time
- Be mindful of any beginners near you - do not show off with extra turns or similar
- Don't stop dancing to teach somebody the dance steps, especially when there is no room to do so. Teach off the floor if you can't find a suitable place
- If you are starting off a dance make sure that you go to the front so that others can join behind you
- Finally, keep your head up, make sure you smile and enjoy yourself
